In order to narrow down the\nexact cause of dizziness, it is necessary to administer a variety of tests. The\nmost common ones performed at our office include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Videonystagmography (VNG).<\/strong> An infrared\nvideo camera inside a pair of goggles is used to track eye movements. Because\nthe eyes move reflexively in response to signals from the vestibular organs in\nthe ears, the patterns of eye movement can indicate whether vestibular function\nis normal or abnormal. <\/li><li><strong>Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP).<\/strong> VEMP testing\nis used to determine whether the saccule (an inner ear organ) and vestibular\nnerves are functioning properly. Electrodes are attached to the neck and sounds\nare transmitted through a pair of headphones. The electrical response of the\nsternocleidomastoid muscle in the neck is recorded.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These tests may be combined with\nadditional hearing or diagnostic tests depending on the results.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Preparing for Vestibular Testing <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some important steps you need to take in order to be ready for testing. Some of the most critical include not wearing make-up, dressing comfortably and stopping certain medications several days prior to testing.
